DENSE DEM (LiDAR FROM IMAGERY)

Through high-end GPU processing it has become possible to observe a DEM point for nearly every pixel in an image. The technique can rapidly provide a near perfect representation of a surface which is ideal for some applications such as quarries, land fills and stock piles. Futhermore, these types of surfaces can be automatically filtered using LiDAR style algorithms to provide a reasonable bare-earth model in a short time frame.

STEREOSCOPICALLY OBSERVED GROUND MODELS

One of the most reliable and accurate means to create a ground model remains through manual observation. This procedure requires a skilled operators to place DEM points on the ground while wearing stereo glasses. Breaklines and formlines are collected simultaneously to create an extremely accurate model.

RAPID GROUND MODELS

On large projects it is sometimes necessary to extract an approximate ground model without the time and expense of manual observation. In these instances algoritms can be employed to automatically select only good ground points and discard everything else. This type of product is ideal for orthorectification where a suitably accurate terrain model is not available.
